Everyday Assistive Technology VIP Blog (2024)

May 3rd

This week I have not been able to do much research into forum platforms due to my busy schedule.

April 26th

Stefan responded saying he would like the new site to look like the current site. Additionally, he would like me to try to find a free forum platform, or at least try to find the cheapest one.

April 19th

I looked at the shop page and told Stefan that it looked fine to me, but would be best if it was tested by someone who knows how to properly use a screen reader. Additionally, I looked into how to add forums to Squarespace sites (as that will be part of the new LTC website), and found Website Toolbox to be popular, but it costs money. In fact, almost every forum platform costs money. I also asked if the new site should look like the current site, or have a different aesthetic.

April 12th

I reached out to Stefan again and he replied saying the menu issue seemed to be fixed on his phone. As such, he would like me now to move on to testing the shop to make sure it is accessible, especially for those who are visually impaired. Afterwards, I will begin to look at templates for the upcoming new website.

April 5th

I am still waiting for a response from Stefan.

March 29th

I am able to see the Shop page in the menu on my phone, so I have asked Stefan to send a screenshot of what he sees when he goes to the menu. Currently waiting for his response.

March 15th

I heard back from Stefan and he said he liked the changes. However, he said he was not able to see the Shop page in the menu when using his phone.

March 8th

I have tried contacting Stefan and Eli again for feedback and hope to hear back by the end of next week.

March 1st

I am currently waiting for feedback from Stefan and Eli.

Per Stefan's request, I added a new Shop page to the Level The Curve website. This was done to help consumers find the products more easily. Additionally, I made minor edits to the EZ Adapt shop page. Stefan recently changed the EZ Adapt shop page photos, so one of the things I did was adjust the new photos so that they fit into the thumbnails more nicely, as shown below.

Before

Screenshot showing the EZ Adapt shop page before I implemented changes. The page has three products, each with an accompanying image. The images are off-centered with their thumbnail boxes, making the tops of the images get cut off.

After

February 16th

This week has been fairly slow. I tried to connect with Eli twice via email to get feedback on the changes I made last week, but I have not heard back. I plan to send another email sometime early next week. In the meantime, I will be adding a "Shop" page to the website nav bar, which was requested by Stefan earlier this week.

February 9th

I implemented almost all the accessibility improvements to the Level The Curve website. This included increasing font size, increasing font weight, improving color contrast, et cetera. Below is an example of the changes I made. Unfortunately I was not able to make any changes to the checkout page, likely due to payment security issues. However, I am going to continue to do some research to see if I can at least increase the font size.

Before

Screenshot showing the header of the website before I implemented changes. The color contrast is very low and the font size is too small.

After

Screenshot showing the header of the website after I implemented changes. The color contrast is much better, the font size is bigger, and the active page in the nav bar is now underlined.

February 2nd

I re-connected with Stefan and Eli from Level The Curve and met with Eli via Google Meet to go over possible accessibility improvements for their website. Eli liked all of my suggestions, so I will be implementing all of them within the next few days. Additionally, we will be contacting a blind acquaintance who will be able to provide feedback about the website's screen reader usability.
